The Technical Writer/Document Control Coordinator serves the business by assisting all departments in the creation and maintenance of their documented policies, procedures and related documents, and serving as needed as the communication bridge between the subject matter experts and the defined processes. This position also oversees the company’s document management platform in support of our clients ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) certification.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Create and update the many different types of documentation used at G+D including but not limited to Policies, Procedures, Technical Manuals, Process Diagrams, Work Instructions, Forms, Quality Alerts, and other technology, business, software and industrial related documentation.
  • Communicate information gathering requirements to colleagues and stakeholders so that they know how to prepare and provide information needed for technical writing.
  • Provide direction and encouragement to departments which have staff capable of writing their own documentation.
  • Manage our clients  Document Management System, learning the current document control software but also researching and recommending alternatives when new platforms are needed and managing the migration process.
  • Systematically review the Document Management System to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and all other applicable certification and compliance requirements (e.g. PCI Card Production and Provisioning Logical and Physical Security Requirements).
  • Being familiar with our clients  Global Quality Management documentation and reporting platforms including Microsoft SharePoint.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of the Quality Assurance team and assist in special projects and decision making as required.
  • Assist other QA team members with audits, non-conformance report (NCR) investigations, EH&S duties and other product development activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements
Work Experience:
  • 3 years’ minimum of experience producing easy-to-understand documentation for internal and external users such as test plans, work instructions, procedures, templates, help documentation.
  • 3 years’ minimum of experience providing recommendations and following best practices for document maintenance, format and control.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Possess advanced English language written and oral communication abilities
  • French language skills an asset.
  • Must have an aptitude for analytical thinking and technical understanding.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues in all departments to develop, edit and format documents in accordance with our clients standards.
  • Must be able to ensure that the document control processes are in compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Enjoy researching, collecting, analyzing and organizing technical information.
  • Function in a self-directed manner in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint (end user and administrator tasks).
  • Be highly-organized and adapt to new technologies easily.
  • Have the ability to take unformatted technical feedback and document it in such a way as to make it easily understandable to a non-technical reader.
  • Be able to deliver high quality documentation paying close attention to detail.
  • Be able to describe complex processes in concise, easy to understand English.
  • Have the ability to handle sensitive and complex issues with discretion and good judgment.
  • University or College degree, a technical major is preferred.
